Copy of 2025 WVNA Awards Nominations

The WVNA Nominations and Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2025-2026 WVNA State Awards, which will be presented during the Celebration of Nursing Dinner at the Embassy Suites by Hilton on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
Each year, the West Virginia Nurses Association recognizes individuals and organizations who exemplify excellence in nursing. These awards honor meaningful contributions that strengthen our profession and highlight the positive impact nurses have on their colleagues, patients, families, and communities across the state.
We invite you to nominate your colleagues, mentors, supervisors, employers, and remember, self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged.

1.Please provide the name of your nominee for the WVNA Friend of Nursing Award.

This award honors individuals or organizations outside of the nursing profession who have made significant contributions to nursing. It recognizes those who offer valuable support, advocacy, or assistance to nurses and to the nursing community, helping nurses without being nurses themselves.

Examples: Legislators, state/government employees, non-nurses or organizations who support nurses, and individuals who advocate for nursing policy and the profession.
2.Please provide one specific example of why your nominee should be considered for the WVNA Friend of Nursing award.
3.Please provide the name of your nominee for the WVNA Lifelong Contribution to Nursing Award.

This should be a nursing leader, manager, educator, or a direct care nurse who embodies the essence of nursing with a long-time nursing career.
4.Please provide a specific example or personal story that demonstrates why you believe your nominee deserves consideration for the WVNA Lifelong Contribution to Nursing Award in West Virginia. This award recognizes a WVNA member who is acknowledged by the West Virginia nursing community as a significant leader in nursing.

Explain why this individual stands out as the ideal candidate, highlighting their accomplishments.

Note: WVNA will verify membership, we just need your nominations.
5.Please provide the name of your nominee for the WVNA Mentorship Award. The ideal candidate would be a nurse educator, preceptor, clinical faculty member, work mentor, director, or advisor.
6.Please provide one specific example of why you feel this person should be considered and why you feel this person is the best nominee in West Virginia for the Mentorship Award.
7.Please provide the name of your nominee for the Early Career Nurse Leader award. This is a newly licensed nurse (within 5 years of licensure).
8.Please provide one specific example of why you feel this person is the best nominee in West Virginia for the WVNA Early Career Nurse Leader award.

For example: When Mr. King, a newly diagnosed cancer patient, expressed anxiety about his upcoming chemotherapy, Jackie went above and beyond. They coordinated a detailed consultation with an oncologist, offered comprehensive information on managing side effects, and connected him with a cancer support group for emotional support. This is something Jackie consistently does.
9.Please provide the name of your nominee for the WVNA Excellence in Direct Patient Care award.

This is a direct care nurse in facility, hospice, home health,(LPN, RN, BSN).
10.Please provide one specific example of why you feel this person is the best nominee in West Virginia for the WVNA Excellence in Direct Patient Care award.

For example: When Mr. King, a newly diagnosed cancer patient, expressed anxiety about his upcoming chemotherapy, Jackie went above and beyond. They coordinated a detailed consultation with an oncologist, offered comprehensive information on managing side effects, and connected him with a cancer support group for emotional support. This is something Jackie consistently does.
11.Please provide the name of your nominee for the WV Nurses PAC Politically Active Nurse of the Year Award.

This award, selected by the WV Nurses PAC, recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing nursing policy in West Virginia. The nominee should be actively involved in political initiatives that support nursing practice, serve as a positive role model in nursing policy, and encourage nurses to engage in the political process. They should also promote education and awareness about the importance of legislative involvement for nurses and advocate for increased political engagement with WVNA and the WV Nurses PAC.
12.Please provide a brief example of why you feel this person is the best nominee in the state of West Virginia for the WV Nurses PAC Politically Active Nurse of the Year award.
13.Please provide the name of your nominee for the WVNA AANP Conference Scholarship.

This award is presented to a practicing WVNA APRN member in good standing who demonstrates a commitment to WVNA and to advancing nursing. Applicants should provide examples of leadership, advocacy, mentorship, or professional engagement. The recipient will be asked to share insights from the AANP Conference in the West Virginia Nurse and should be actively involved with WVNA as a legislative leader, committee member, or nursing policy advocate.
14.Please provide a brief example of why you feel this person is the best nominee in the state of West Virginia for the WVNA AANP Conference Scholarship.
Example "Sarah has been an APRN champion for years, advocating for full practice authority, volunteering in their community, has been a WVNA Legislative Leader and committee chair person for years".
15.Please provide the name of the organization you are nominating for the WVNA Beacon Award.

This award celebrates the best workplace for nurses in West Virginia, chosen by nurses themselves. It honors organizations that create a positive, supportive environment where staff morale is high, collaboration is strong, turnover rates are low, and patient care is exceptional. These organizations are committed to promoting a healthy work environment and work-life balance. Nurses take pride in working here and enthusiastically recommend it to their peers.
