Dear ATS Membership,

Thank you for your continued support and engagement with the ATS! We realize that the last several years have been very difficult for us all, taking a particular toll on healthcare workers and the communities we serve. We hope that we have been able to provide supportive content and insight during this time.

In light of the events of, and issues highlighted by, the pandemic, the ATS has begun to investigate its role in preventing and mitigating racism as it relates to trauma care. We recognize that excellent trauma care is dependent upon a trauma system free from racial and cultural discrimination. It requires a coordinated, multidisciplinary, holistic approach to the care of each and every trauma patient. The survival of our patients is dependent upon the trauma system to make clinical decisions in the most competent and equitable manner possible.

As such, we have made a commitment to examining and modifying our own organizational tenets so as to promote diversity and inclusivity in actionable, meaningful, and long-lasting ways. In order to fully understand how we can improve upon our current processes, we are seeking your help to capture data related to the make-up of our members. Thus, enclosed is a survey seeking information on the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity of our membership. We value transparency and input from our members. We will keep our membership apprised of the survey’s progress and, ultimately, our findings.  We plan to keep the survey open through September 5, 2022.

The information provided is not identified and will be used to assist with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts at the ATS.

If you have any questions or comments about the purpose of this survey, please contact us. Thank you again for your faithfulness to the mission of the ATS!
Kind Regards,

Maggie Baumer, JD                                         Sharon Henry, MD
