SAWIA Fit4Work Musculoskeletal Health Program Survey
Dear wine industry worker,
The ‘Fit4Work Musculoskeletal Health Program’ is a new preventative injury and health initiative by the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) and Pinnacle Workplace Consultants supported with funding by SA Health, Business SA and Wine Grape Council of South Australia (WGCSA). The initiative is designed to help the workforce in the grape growing and other parts of the wine industry build local knowledge and capacity to deliver educational resources which can be utilised by all workers regarding their musculoskeletal health and related health topics.
For the purposes of this survey and ultimately the development of the program the term musculoskeletal refers to your muscles, bones, tendons, nerves and other soft tissues. The most common injuries relating to the musculoskeletal system in the wine industry include sprains and strains, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis, Tenosynovitis and Bursitis.
In order to design and evaluate the outcomes of the program, we are asking if you can assist us by completing the following survey based on your current practicesin relation to preventing musculoskeletal injuries and promoting health and wellbeing at your workplace.
In the first phase of the program we are planning to develop 2 grape growing task specific online training modules and a 'Mind Your Health' module focusing on other health topics. The task specific modules will feature tasks which are commonly performed or may place a worker at risk of sprain or strain injury. The modules will include aspects of the tasks which are a risk to musculoskeletal health, the most optimal technique to perform the task, injury prevention stretches and exercises and other risk management tips. Tasks could include, for example, manually pruning grapes, driving tractors, pruning vines, or handling chemical bags. It is envisaged that the online training resources will be delivered to workers as part of an induction program or a refresher toolbox meeting. Hence we are also seeking your input on the tasks and health topics which you feel would be most beneficial for you to provide to your workers.
