Informed Consent

You are invited to complete a survey about Behavioral Intervention Teams (BITs), sometimes called CARE teams or Threat Assessment Teams, conducted by the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment (NABITA).

Purpose: The survey’s purpose is to gather descriptive and demographic data from higher education institutions regarding their use of BITs. NABITA membership is not a requirement to participate.

Procedures: Participants are asked to complete a 20-minute online survey. Please note that the survey must be completed in one sitting. If you close the survey window, your progress will not be saved when you start it again.

Risks: The survey has no anticipated risks. Participation is voluntary. You may skip any question and may withdraw participation at any time. Refusal to participate in this survey will not affect future services from NABITA.

Benefits: The survey will gather data about the structure and characteristics of BITs. NABITA will use the results to inform its materials and resource creation, training for teams, and to track trends in the field over time. Results of the survey will be available to the public in summary format in a whitepaper.

Confidentiality: State of the Field survey responses will be aggregated and anonymized. No personally identifiable information will be collected or shared, and responses will not be reasonably identifiable at the individual or institutional level.

By proceeding with this survey, you acknowledge and agree that your anonymized responses, including open-ended responses and aggregated response data, may be used by TNG Consulting and shared in anonymized, aggregated form with third parties for purposes including, but not limited to, research, analysis, evaluation, reporting, and related uses consistent with the mission of the survey.

Participation in this survey is voluntary. If you do not agree to the terms above, please do not proceed with the survey.

Please have only one person from your institution or organization take the survey. The survey asks for specific and detailed information about the team's structure and processes, and it is therefore best if the person with the most information about the team completes it.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the principal researcher, Makenzie Schiemann, Ph.D., Partner, TNG, and President, NABITA at makenzie.schiemann@tngconsulting.com.
