Background

May 2016 saw the release of the Ngā Aho Rangahau o Maniapoto – Threads of Research Report designed to define economic opportunities from within the primary sector of the Maniapoto rohe.

Among the recommendations it identified that planting of mānuka on 14,000ha for honey production in the Maniapoto rohe could result in a net of $3.22 million return.  This is an opportunity for Māori land blocks (MLB's).

The ability for MLB's to take up The Opportunity varies depending on:

·        Land blocks size;
·        Mānuka coverage;
·        Governance and management readiness

The Purpose of this survey is;

1.    To assess which Maniapoto Māori land blocks may be ready; and

2.    To register interest in an upcoming hui to further discuss;

·        Land block readiness with industry experts; and

·        The preference of land blocks on how to move forward with this opportunity

Please complete the attached survey.
