We, the undersigned members of the Carleton Community, are writing to express our deep concern regarding the:
- Unprecedented parking rate increases of up to 63% that took effect on May 1, 2025
- Removal of the Daily Employee Hotspot Rate and restriction of parking permits for students
- Parking capacity issues on campus
We are collectively appealing to Carleton University to
immediately reverse the implementation of the parking rate increases and restore the Employee Daily Hotspot Rate and:
- Provide transparent and consistent communication about the rationale, budgeting, and decision-making process
- Engage in meaningful consultation with staff & student representatives and unions
- Commit to developing fair, needs-based, and realistic parking policies
Workers and students should not be made to pay for institutional development decisions that exclude their voices. These decisions affect our daily lives, work & education access, and financial stability.
