Invitation and Explanation

This study is being conducted by Dr. Tina Herzberg at the University of South Carolina Upstate and Dr. L. Penny Rosenblum at The University of Arizona. We are exploring the experiences of teachers of students with visual impairments (TSVIs), university instructors, and adults ages 18-25  who learned braille after first learning print during their K-12 education. From these groups we will gather information about how the decision was made to transition a student from print to braille, assessment techniques used, materials used, role of motivation, impact of role models, and contribution of the family.

This study is being conducted through the School of Education at the University of South Carolina Upstate. The focus group questions have been reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Board-Human Subjects in Research.

Some focus groups will occur in person while others will occur via web conferencing. Participation in either type of focus group is voluntary and you may leave the focus group at any time with no penalty.

Focus groups will last 60-90 minutes and will be comprised of 5 to 12 individuals. No risk or discomfort is anticipated through your participation in the focus group. In preparing transcripts, the researchers will use your first name and initial of your last name if two individuals have the same first name.
