Participant Information Leaflet

You are invited to participate in this research project which is being carried out by Sinead Collins. Your participation is voluntary.  Even if you agree to participate now, you can withdraw at any time without any consequences of any kind.

The study is designed to investigate the reported perceptions of parents of children with Autism on the EarlyBird programme.

If you agree to participate, this will involve you completing an anonymous online survey, where you will be asked some questions on your experience of the EarlyBird Programme. The survey will take no more than 20 minutes to finish.

The self-reflective nature of the online survey may elicit some distress for you. If this is the case, the website Autism Ireland has a list of support groups across the country which can provide support. The list and contact details can be accessed through this link, https://autismireland.ie/good-to-know/support-groups/. The online survey is anonymous and therefore allows participants to speak freely without judgement.

There is no immediate benefit for you as a participant. However, in the future, there is a possibility that the analysis of the data will result in changes into how early intervention programmes, such as EarlyBird are delivered and supported. The research may benefit future parents and the way in which the service is delivered.

Any information or data which we obtain from you during this research which can be identified with you will be treated confidentially.  We will do this by not retaining any IP addresses throughout the research project. The data will be kept anonymous.

If you have any questions about this research you can contact me at collis12@tcd.ie.  You are also free, however, to contact the supervisor of the project, Dr Martine Smith at mmsmith@tcd.ie  to seek further clarification and information.
