1. Welcome to the Private Property Infiltration and Inflow Reduction Program Questionnaire!

The Water Environment Federation® (WEF®) Collection Systems Community Group (CSC), is interested in documenting successful private property infiltration and inflow (PPII) reduction programs that address illicit stormwater connections and the privately-owned portion of the wastewater lateral line, e.g., building service connection. Recognizing that private laterals and related private infrastructure can often represent 50% of any collection system, no infiltration and inflow (I/I) reduction program can succeed without remediating both public and private sources.

Utilities across North America can benefit from hearing your ideas, lessons learned, and unique program approaches addressing PPII. We are requesting information on utility characteristics, monitoring efforts, policy descriptions, local ordinances, funding details, public education, standard design, and more, on the following program types:
  • Preventative Maintenance Programs
  • Lateral Repair
  • Direct Source Disconnection
  • Private Lateral Insurance Programs
  • All other solutions addressing I/I on private property!

This key information will be summarized and added to the WEF® Private Property Virtual Library (PPVL), an online resource database (WEF Private Property Virtual Library) for wastewater utilities seeking information or advice about PPII reduction programs. By participating in this questionnaire, you are agreeing that information about your utility’s PPII reduction program will be added to the PPVL website. Only WEF members will have access to any files you choose to share.

In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of your utilities PPII program, please allot 45 - 60 minutes to complete this survey. You are only requested to answer questions about programs that pertain to you or those you are willing to share information about. Please complete these questions to the best of your ability. Rough estimates are accepted, and you can skip if you do not feel you have sufficient information to answer. If you would prefer to have a dialog about your program, the WEF CSC would welcome the opportunity to discuss your program and provide an overview that can serve as an example to others.

Thank you for sharing your time and expertise on your utilities PPII program! We look forward to sharing the results of this survey with you so you can connect with your peers and continue to enhance your own PPII reduction program.
