The Doctrine and Church in Society Committees are called upon from time to time to advise the College of Bishops, Standing Committee, or General Synod, or to respond on their behalf to consultation papers issued by the Scottish Government or other bodies. These tasks increasingly require a breadth of expertise which cannot realistically be reflected in the membership of any Committee, but require consultation with suitably qualified experts in the relevant fields. This advice is always best sought from within our Church, from members committed to our vision of the Christian Gospel but also knowledgeable and experienced in the issues on which advice is sought.

We are therefore inviting all members of our Church to identify areas of academic and professional expertise in which they may be able to assist these and other Committees of our Church from time to time. This would not require a commitment to serving on those Committees for a full term, but may of course lead to an invitation to do so. In the first instance, however, we are seeking information and an indication of willingness to respond to requests for assistance on an ad hoc basis.
