Dear Participant,

This study is designed for certified school psychologists. I am requesting your voluntary, anonymous, participation in the current study. The purpose of this study is to understand perceptions of bullying behavior. This research may contribute to the field of school psychology by improving the training on defining and identifying bullying behavior and suggested interventions, thereby possibly providing a safer environment for all students.

You will be asked to complete 1 survey that should take a total of about 10-15 minutes to complete. Upon completion of the survey, you will be directed to a site to enter your email address if you would like to enter a raffle to win a $10 e-gift card to Amazon. Your email address will not be connected to your responses in any way. The first part of the survey will ask about basic demographic variables. The second part of the survey will include situations describing conflicts between students. You will be asked to identify whether the situations describe bullying behavior, to rate the severity of each situation, to rate the degree to which each situation requires an adult to intervene, and finally if adult intervention is required to specify what the adult should do.

The anonymity of your research records will be strictly maintained as you will not be asked to provide any identifying information about yourself. Your confidentiality will be maintained to the degree permitted by the technology used. No guarantees can be made regarding interception of data sent via the Internet by any third parties. Your participation in this online survey involves risks similar to a person’s everyday use of the Internet. Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw at any time without any penalty. Each item in the surveys will provide a response option to choose if you do not want to answer that question. While no more than everyday risk is involved with this study, in the unlikely event that you should experience some stress as a function of responding to these questions and would like to speak to a local mental health professional, you may find someone in your area using this website: Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies - Find a Therapist.

By completing the questionnaires, you will have voluntarily agreed to participate in this study. Please allow me to thank you in advance for your cooperation. In the event that you need any additional information regarding this research project, you may email myself, Oksana Huk, at ohuk@iona.edu. For questions about your treatment as a research participant, you may contact Iona College’s Human Subjects Review Board, Dr. Michael Jordan (914) 633-2206 or via e-mail at mjordan@iona.edu.
