As part of the Review of the
Registered Nurse Accreditation Standards (RNAS) 2019, Anmac (the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council) is seeking members for its Expert Advisory Group.
The RNAS are used for assessing and monitoring education providers and nursing education programs leading to registration as a registered nurse (RN). The RNAS set the minimum requirements education providers must meet when designing, delivering and evaluating programs of study leading to registration as an RN.
The review will ensure RN education programs remain responsive to evolving healthcare needs, professional standards for practice, and evidence-based practice. The RNAS will also include consideration and alignment with key recommendations from the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM’s)

Anmac is the independent accrediting authority for nursing and midwifery education under Australia’s National Registration and Accreditation Scheme. Its role is to safeguard the health and safety of the Australian community by setting high‑quality standards for nursing and midwifery education, training and assessment. Anmac leads the development of accreditation standards in consultation with our stakeholders and representatives from the profession. Anmac is also responsible for determining whether programs of study for nurses and midwives seeking to practice in Australia meet the required accreditation standards.
What we are looking forThe successful applicant will
- Be currently enrolled in an approved nursing program of study, or
- Be a registered nurse within their first five years of practice
- Have knowledge of accreditation standards and how they are used in nursing and midwifery education
- Understand Anmac's role within the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme in Australia
- Understand key elements of Health Practitioner Regulation National Law
- Have a basic knowledge of curriculum development as it relates to nurse education
- Have an understanding of the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice and their application within education
- Understand the importance of cultural safety in nurse education
Role of Expert Advisory Group Members
- Consider the accreditation standards in their entirety, focusing on what best serves the public and supports RNs in their practice
- Attend all meetings. There will be one face to face meeting in Canberra and 3-4 online meetings. Costs of travel and accommodation (if required) to attend the face to face meeting will be covered by Anmac)
- Review draft materials and provide timely feedback
- Uphold cultural protocols and respectful engagement
