The Rothwell Preservation Trust is developing plans to secure the long-term future of Rothwell's iconic Tudor Market House, which has stood at the heart of the town for almost 450 years. The Market House is one of only a small number of Grade I listed buildings in the country, recognising it as a building of exceptional historic importance.
The building now needs significant repairs, including replacing the roof, repairing the historic stonework, improving waterproofing and restoring the windows. Because of the building's exceptional historic importance, this work must be carried out by specialist heritage craftspeople using appropriate conservation methods.
The Trust has been invited to develop a full application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund — the UK's largest funder of heritage projects. Alongside essential repairs, the funding would enable us to explore new ways for the building to be used and enjoyed, including community activities and carefully chosen commercial uses that can help generate income to support the building's future maintenance.
