Taking part in research about reunification with children who have been in care

We are a charity called the National Children’s Bureau (NCB) and we are doing a research project about reunification of children in care with their birth families. Reunification means returning to live with birth families after being in care. This could be foster care, in a children’s home or with friends or family.

An organisation called Foundations, which works to improve social care, is paying NCB to do this.

We’re going to: Talk directly to young people, parents and people who work in children’s services in the UK to help us understand what works now.

We are running online group discussions and interviews with young people. If you want to take part, here’s what you need to know:

We are interested in talking to people:
  • Between 16 and 25 years old
  • Who have been in care in the UK (e.g. with foster carers, in a children’s home, or with a family member or friend) for at least 4 weeks in one go
  • Have moved back in with your birth parent(s), even if it didn’t work out long-term
