2.Club Programme of the Year

Extra Time Tournament
Wellington United’s Extra Time Tournament brought a record 96 teams together for two days of football this year. Saturday featured mixed football, followed by a girls-only day on Sunday. More than a tournament, it gives young players, families and clubs a chance to play and connect in a fun, social setting. The event is made possible by volunteers, whose work spans planning, fixtures, referees, set-up and pack-down. Its growth reflects its place in the local football calendar.

Football For All
Football For All is recognised for an initiative that helped more children take part in football, particularly those facing barriers or challenges that could make participation difficult. By creating opportunities for these young people to get involved, the initiative supports a more accessible game and helps bring football within reach of more children. Its impact reflects the value of removing barriers and making sure more of the community has the chance to take part.

Lower Hutt Fantails
Lower Hutt Fantails is recognised for its programme at Fraser Park and, in particular, the people who run it. The nomination celebrates the team behind the programme and the contribution they make to delivering it. Their work has been singled out as a strength, making this a chance to acknowledge the people who help the programme happen.

Naenae FC collaboration with Remutaka FC
Naenae FC worked with Remutaka FC as the new club prepared to form and complete its affiliation process. Through months of communication, Naenae supported more than 30 children and a women’s team to remain together while that process was underway. The collaboration reflected a community-focused approach and laid the foundation for an ongoing relationship between the clubs. Thanks go to Jane for the work she contributed, with further collaboration planned for the future.

Wainuiomata AFC Junior Positive Vibes Challenge
Wainuiomata AFC’s five-week Positive Vibes Challenge encouraged positive behaviour around junior and youth football. Each week focused on a different aspect, from sideline behaviour to respect for officials. Coaches nominated stand-out role models, who were recognised on social media and received a small prize pack. A week inspired by Pink Shirt Day saw players and coaches wear pink, including tutus and face paint. It was a hit with players and sparked conversations on the pitch.

Women's Football Centre
Over the past three years, the free, independent and volunteer-run Women’s Football Centre has offered a welcoming entry point to football for women and gender-diverse people aged 18 and over. More than 300 women have come through since it began in 2023, including newcomers and people returning to the game. In 2025/26, 120 people attended its largest season to date. The Centre also offers pathways into coaching, helping participants build experience and confidence.

3.Club Moment of the Year

Tawa AFC - Last minute winner for promotion
With promotion to Central One on the line, Tawa led 1–0 on the final day and looked set to seal it. Then, with just 40 seconds of injury time left, they conceded. At 1–1, hope seemed to slip away. But from the restart, Tawa pushed forward with purpose, stringing together seven passes before a far-post finish found the net on the final whistle. The winner made it 2–1 and secured promotion. In the space of moments, heartbreak turned to jubilation: a finish that captured the chaos, tension and sheer joy of football.

Jack Imray - Wainuiomata AFC Juniors
On 22 August, around 20 Wainuiomata juniors came along to the club’s final home game of the season. It was cold, gloomy and raining, but they were excited to support the Central League 2 team, many for the first time that season. During the warm-up, they called out, “Give us a wave!” and “You got this, Wainui!” Their cheers were a little shy, though, and none of the players seemed to hear. As the team headed to the changing rooms, captain Jack Imray turned back. While his teammates carried on, he went over to the juniors, said hello to the adults, high-fived every child and joined in with their shooting game. The juniors were buzzing. They formed a guard of honour, high-fiving both teams and the match officials as they came onto the pitch, then cheered Wainui on for the full 90 minutes through the howling wind and pouring rain. They celebrated every goal and watched their team win 5–2. Jack’s small gesture showed how a captain can lead off the pitch, too. It captured the welcoming, family-club spirit Wainuiomata is proud of - and may have helped at least one junior fall even more in love with football. The video was shared by New Zealand Football and voted McDonald’s August Moment of the Month.

4.Club Team of the Year

IBU Reserves (Cap 1)
After last season’s relegation, IBU Reserves bounced back in style, comfortably winning the Capital One title. Led by a 19-year-old captain, this young side showed maturity and composure throughout the season. They also brought a strong group of Under-17 and Under-19 players into the senior squad, scoring 70 goals with 22 different players finding the net.

Keinzley Agvet Greytown FC Men's 1st Team (Capital Premier League)
Keinzley Agvet Greytown FC’s Men’s First Team won every home game and finished the season on a 13-game winning streak. That strong finish capped an impressive campaign in Capital Premier and makes the team a nominee for Team of the Year.

Manakau FC Tuakana Teina (Horowhenua/ Kapiti 3)
Tuakana Teina embodies the heart and soul of grassroots football. Despite a tough campaign, with a hard-fought draw against Wanderers their best result, the team turned up week after week with a full bench, plenty of determination and a genuine passion for the game. Their camaraderie, resilience and ability to celebrate every moment showed that team spirit is about far more than the final standings.

Naenae Women's 1st Team (Cap 1)
What a season for Naenae’s new women’s team. From the outset, their goal was to win the competition, and they did just that, dropping only one game all season. Their success has brought competitive women’s football to the club, with the wider Naenae community getting behind the team throughout their campaign. They’ll head into 2027 ready for Capital Premier.

Petone Argh Me Knees (Masters 1)
Argh Me Knees finished first in the Masters 1 league and made a strong contribution to club life beyond their own team. Players helped coach juniors and seniors across multiple levels, while the team turned up to club functions and their partners helped behind the bar.

Stokes Valley Senders (Wellington 4)
The Senders had a season to celebrate, winning both Wellington 4 and the Wellington Bowl. Their achievements were also recognised within the club, where they were named Stokes Valley’s Team of the Year.

Tawa Capital Two (Cap 2)
Tawa Capital Two put together a stellar season, going 15 games unbeaten in a tough Capital Two league. They did it with a young squad, making the run an impressive achievement for a group of young players who brought plenty to the team.

Wellington United Diamonds (Women's Central League)
The Diamonds faced a major rebuild in 2026, with long-time players moving on and 16 new players making their debut, including nine under 18. Senior players helped the next generation find their feet, and the team turned change into a season to remember: 96 goals, the league’s equal-best defensive record and an eighth Central League title in 11 years. It was a win built on more than results; it showed the strength of the Diamond family.

5.Club Social Media of the Year

Island Bay United
Island Bay’s social media brings the whole club into view, with a mix of junior and senior content that invites the wider community to engage. Upper Hutt City Football
Upper Hutt City Football’s digital presence is run by one volunteer, with no marketing budget, agency or media team. From match graphics and sideline photos to community engagement, their work has generated more than 2.7 million views this year and helped grow Instagram followers by 410%. Their inclusive coverage spans junior First Kicks and Girls Fantails through to Men’s Central League, as well as club initiatives such as the annual mental health fundraiser. The club has also launched a TikTok page, averaging nearly 3,000 views per video.

VUWAFC
VUWAFC has maintained a consistent presence on Instagram and Facebook, using player and match photos to keep followers connected with the club. Its posts have a recognisable visual style, with a sense of fun that continues even when results are tough. The nomination recognises the work that goes into keeping the club visible and sharing its football throughout the season.

Wainuiomata AFC
Wainuiomata AFC’s social media is run by one volunteer, who balances the work with shift duties. Their Photoshop-designed graphics and posts keep the club’s many teams in view, from juniors and youth to women, masters and social football. Weekly fixtures and results, match-day team sheets and live updates help members follow the action. Videos, memes and photos add variety, while milestone moments and volunteers are celebrated—including with individual tributes and a poem for Volunteer Week.

Wellington United
Wellington United uses social media to tell the stories behind the football and celebrate the people who make up the club. Posts recognise player debuts, milestones and achievements, as well as the contributions of coaches and volunteers. The club sees its channels as a living record, where players and members can revisit important moments and see their contributions acknowledged. More than a weekend recap, its aim is to help everyone following the club feel part of Wellington United.

6.Personality of the Year

Chelsea Blyth - Upper Hutt City
Appointed Club Captain at Upper Hutt, Chelsea made a real impact, particularly in the women’s game. Whatever the weather, she could be found on the sideline each weekend, bringing infectious energy and making the people around her smile. Her contribution and commitment were recognised at the club’s prizegiving, where she received the Greatest Contribution in Women’s Football Award. Chelsea’s warmth and presence help make football a more enjoyable experience for everyone around her.

Gareth Winder - North Wellington
Gareth is North Wellington’s ultimate “Mr Fix-It”—a familiar, much-loved presence whose commitment to the club seems to grow every year. In a club supporting members across 75 teams, Gareth’s contribution reaches almost every corner: he coordinates kit and equipment, coaches the Capital 3 Men’s Third Team, manages the Men’s Central League 2 side and brings practical, solution-focused support to the committee. He gives multiple evenings and weekends to the game, helping teams get what they need and creating an encouraging environment where players can develop and enjoy their football. On matchdays at Alex Moore Park, Gareth is hard to miss: cheering from the sideline, supporting teams across the club and lifting the energy around the ground. By taking on so many roles, he also helps ease the load on other volunteers. Gareth’s selflessness, enthusiasm and constant willingness to step in make him a special part of North Wellington.

James Elliot - Greytown FC
James brings his passion for Greytown Football to everything he does. As club secretary, manager of the GFC Spartans and a player whenever he can be, he gives his time to support both his team and the wider club. He is a familiar and enthusiastic presence on the sidelines, bringing energy to matches and helping connect the Greytown football community. James’s commitment and love for the Spartans and the club shine through in the way he gets involved.

Quillan Roberts - Western Suburbs
Quillan “Q” Roberts has made a name for himself in goal for Western Suburbs’ Men’s Central League side, bringing his own distinctive flair and personality to the team. He also plays in goal for Guyana, and his eye-catching hairstyle means he stands out wherever he goes. Q plays with a smile and enjoys connecting with supporters at home and away. His warmth and good humour make him a memorable presence both on the pitch and around the sidelines.

Sophie Smith - Wellington United
Sophie brings energy, enthusiasm and a genuine care for football in Wellington. Through her social media and communications work at Wellington United, she makes sure people feel seen and appreciated. She notices the moments that might otherwise go unrecognised - from player debuts and milestones to the contributions of volunteers, coaches and teams - and is persistent about getting the photo, quote or detail needed to tell each story well. Sophie is also someone who gets involved beyond her role. She brings ideas to life, puts her hand up to help and contributes to the wider football community. She is particularly passionate about making sure female footballers have a voice and receive the recognition they deserve. Enthusiastic, occasionally loud, and always invested, Sophie brings fun and personality to Wellington United and helps the people around her feel part of the club.

7.Club Administrator of the Year

Amanda Hunter - Island Bay United
Amanda has been a key part of keeping Island Bay United running smoothly throughout 2026, a season that brought significant change. She managed player registrations through the move to Sporty, maintained the new website and app, supported team administration and answered countless questions from players, parents and coaches. Her regular presence at the clubrooms, particularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, gives the IBU whānau a welcoming and reliable point of contact. Amanda is also there on matchdays, helping with the many practical details involved in running a busy club, from signage and goals to supporting the café. She spots what needs doing, finds a solution when something goes wrong and embraces new challenges. She has handled a demanding season with patience, professionalism and a great sense of humour. Much of her contribution happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across the whole club.

Crysta Lokum - Stokes Valley
As junior secretary and administrator, Crysta managed the administration for 26 junior teams during 2026. Supporting a junior division of that size takes organisation, clear communication and the ability to respond when plans or issues change. Crysta adapted as challenges arose and helped keep information moving so the junior programme could continue to function smoothly throughout the season. Her work provided important support for the junior division and the people involved in it.

Dave Webster - Wellington United
As Club Chairman, Dave Webster takes care of the practical, administrative and governance work that helps Wellington United run. He keeps the clubrooms operating, manages liquor and club licences, organises the AGM, follows up committee actions, coordinates grounds and works through the many issues that come with running a club of this size. He works closely with the Director of Football, committee and Good Sorts family to keep things moving and make sure important jobs do not fall through the cracks. Dave’s contribution also reaches beyond Wellington United. He has represented the club on Capital Football’s Men’s Advisory Group since 2019, contributing to the wider football community and advocating for the club. Dave lives by the words of the late Bobby Minshull: “I just do stuff so others don’t have to do as much.” It is a fitting description of how he works: he sees what needs doing, gets on with it and makes things easier for others. His contribution helps create the foundations that allow hundreds of players, coaches, managers and volunteers to focus on football.

Joanne Todd - Western Suburbs
Jo continues to excel in administration and operations at Western Suburbs, Wellington’s largest club. Her eye for detail helps the club operate smoothly, while her focus on communication helps ensure people have the information they need. In a club of this scale, reliable administration and clear communication make a real difference to the experience of members and the people supporting the club. Jo’s work is highly valued, and Western Suburbs is proud to have her on the team.

Julian Downs - Greytown
As Greytown FC Club Chairman, Julian Downs has overseen impressive competitive growth within the club. His contribution is not limited to the work of leading the club, either: he is always available to fill in on the field when needed. That willingness to step in reflects a hands-on commitment to Greytown FC and its teams. Julian supports the club both through his leadership and by being ready to help where he can, making him a valued part of the football community.

Leon Raeburn - Tawa
For the past couple of years, Leon has acted as a liaison between his club and Capital Football. Working with Capital Football’s competitions managers, he helps coordinate matchday changes and field management so the process runs as smoothly as possible. Leon speaks regularly with the competitions team, gathering and sharing information between both sides in support of the competition and the game. That communication takes particular effort during Wellington’s wet and wild winter months, when matchday changes and field conditions can make planning challenging. Leon’s steady liaison work helps keep people informed and supports the practical coordination needed to manage football across the competition.

Lesley Jenkin - Miramar Rangers
In her first year as Club Secretary, Lesley has taken ownership of the role with ease and become a central, dependable point of contact for members and volunteers. She supports the many administrative aspects of the club’s operations, including the junior committee’s year-round work, team formation, coaching arrangements, registrations and wider club activities. Lesley’s contribution helps connect the practical pieces that keep the club moving through the season. She was also delighted to be part of Capital Football’s Regional Women in Leadership cohort, where she formed valuable connections across the regional football community. Her commitment to the secretary role and to developing relationships within football has made her an important support for the club.

Matt Bliss - Petone
Matt has served as Petone FC Chairperson since 2019, following ten years as Club Treasurer. His contribution spans leadership, fundraising, football and matchday activity, and he gives a significant amount of personal time to help the club operate and plan for the future. Matt leads sponsorship, maintaining relationships with existing sponsors, seeking new opportunities and coordinating advertising and matchday hospitality. He is also the matchday MC and announcer, often giving up much of a Saturday, and organises the team responsible for live match commentary and recordings. Alongside this, he contributes to the club programme, brings his financial experience to the Finance Subcommittee, leads the Strategic Review Group and takes part in football oversight. Matt combines long-term leadership with practical, hands-on work, and remains committed to Petone FC, its members, sponsors and wider community.

8.Club Volunteer of the Year

Aaron Colvin - Upper Hutt City
Aaron stepped into the Junior Club Captain role towards the end of last season and has made a real impact at Upper Hutt City Football. Most weekends, he can be found at the grounds where the junior and youth teams are playing, making sure nets are up, helping with last-minute ground changes and, just as importantly, cheering the kids on. Aaron’s commitment comes from a genuine passion for the club and its people. Upper Hutt is grateful to have him on board and for the time and energy he gives to supporting its young players.

Andrew McGoff - Petone
Andrew has been involved with Petone FC for more than ten years, giving countless hours to junior football and the people around it. He helps organise teams and coaches, looks after playing gear, supports events and prizegivings, and is often there early on Saturday mornings to get things ready. When something needs sorting, Andrew is someone the club can rely on to step in, whether that means solving a problem, setting up a pitch or refereeing a game. Much of his work happens behind the scenes, but it makes a real difference to players, families, coaches and fellow volunteers. His steady commitment has made him a valued part of Petone’s junior club for many years.

Chandra Yee - Western Suburbs
Although Chandra stood down from her role as Western Suburbs’ junior chair during the 2026 season, she has continued to give as many hours as she can to the club. She helps bring together the large group of volunteers needed to run the end-of-season tournament and is regularly around at weekends, lending a hand wherever it is needed. Chandra’s willingness to keep contributing, even after stepping away from a formal role, speaks to her commitment to the club. Western Suburbs describes her as a true asset.

Dean Brown – Wainuiomata
Dean is a hands-on volunteer whose contribution reaches across Wainuiomata AFC. A committee member for several years, he shares ideas on how the club can improve and takes on maintenance jobs around the grounds, often using his own tools and giving up his own time to fix what needs attention. On Saturday mornings, he is among the first to arrive, helping set up the three pitches, nets and corner flags. He then manages the Reserves, arriving early to lay out the players’ kit and later taking it to the laundromat to wash and dry. On Sundays, Dean referees youth home games and the women’s game. He does whatever is needed, and was voted the club’s Committee Member of the Year for the second time in three years.

Marc Capstick - Seatoun
As Seatoun’s Club Captain, Marc has helped strengthen the club both on and off the pitch. In 2026, he helped recruit the first-team head coach, assisted with the Central League 2 side, managed the Capital 1 reserves and coached a junior team. He also created a new third team, helping more players represent Seatoun, and has already worked to establish a fourth team and recruit a masters side for 2027. His involvement is personal as well as practical: Marc has played across the club’s first, second and third teams and masters. Marc’s contribution extends to the board, sponsorship, club events and the club’s future direction. He brought in sponsors, organised events and prizegiving, and created a summer league. He encourages senior players to coach juniors and take on wider club responsibilities, helping build future leaders. And after training on Thursday nights, he cooks for both men’s teams. Marc’s energy and commitment have helped Seatoun grow its teams and strengthen its culture.

Mark Limmer – Island Bay United
Mark is a familiar, welcoming presence at Island Bay United and someone who helps wherever he is needed. He makes sure players have the gear they need, supports the youth TDP teams and manages the Men’s Reserve team, often stepping in to help manage the Men’s First team too. Mark is also part of the club committee and is regularly at the grounds on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for training. He spends Saturdays supporting the senior men’s teams and is back on Sundays to look after the youth teams. Newcomers are met with a friendly welcome and helped to feel part of the club. Mark’s positivity and selfless commitment make him a valued part of the IBU community.

Lisanne Templer - Waikanae
Lisanne has been part of Waikanae Football Club for many years, as club secretary, team manager of the Ladyhawks and a player. She helps create the welcoming, supportive culture that makes the women’s team special, making sure they have everything they need and encouraging teammates on and off the pitch. When the Ladyhawks faced a shortage of players, Lisanne helped arrange a collaboration with Western Suburbs so local women could continue playing. The positive team environment has since helped bring back returning players and attract new ones. As secretary, Lisanne keeps club administration on track, supports meetings, records decisions and introduced a monthly newsletter to keep members informed. She also represents Waikanae on the Te Kotahitanga FC committee, contributing to the governance of coastal football. A member of the original Ladyhawks team in 2017, Lisanne was one of the club’s first women to receive a 10-year senior membership shirt in 2026. She was also chosen for Waikanae’s inaugural Members’ Voice Award after receiving multiple nominations. Her loyalty, energy and care for the club are felt across the community.

Ritchie Wards - Featherston United
In March, Ritchie had a triple heart bypass. Even so, he continued to manage his team, mentor players and help run the club. His commitment and presence have been a source of strength for the people around him, and his club says they could not have got through the year without him. Ritchie brings a special spirit to the club, and his determination to keep supporting the team and its players is a powerful example of what volunteering means.
