Descriptions of General Volunteer Opportunities

After School Learning Center

Description: Located on campus, this program provides academic and social enrichment for children ages 4-8 of our neighboring community in Pontiac.  Volunteers are needed to tutor, assist with homework, supervise play and other special programs.  Families are welcome to volunteer together.    

Dates and Times: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays; 3:30-5:30 pm; Volunteer for a day or multiple times

ASHletic

Description: ASHletic volunteers attend a meeting to brainstorm and implement fundraising ideas to increase school spirit for the Middle and Upper School Athletic programs.

Duties: Coordinate and run concession stands at home contests, and the prep work involved, as well as other athletic fundraising opportunities.

Dates: Ongoing  Time Required: 3 hours per event

Benefit Auction

Description: The annual Benefit Auction (12/4/09 this year) raises funds to benefit our students. Your help is wanted!  The Benefit committee provides a great variety of opportunities to be involved that will accommodate a wide range of schedules and expertise.

Career Day

Description: Sponsored by the College Counseling Office, Career Day gives Upper School Students a chance to consider a variety of careers in small group settings.  Female professionals for Career Day are especially helpful as their experiences are more relevant to the girls.

Mailings

Description: Mailing volunteers are called on an "as needed" basis. This is an ideal way to volunteer when it fits into your calendar.

Duties: Affixing address labels, stuffing mailing materials into envelopes, and applying postage

Open House

Description: At Open House parent volunteers answer questions from prospective families, escort visitors around the building, register guests and/or serve refreshments.

Recruitment

Description: Volunteer duties might include calling individuals who have either inquired or applied to the Academy; attending events such as the Prep Bowl or High School Nights; or hosting a "coffee and conversation" in your home.

School Spirit Store

Description: The School Spirit Store stocks regular and athletic uniform shirts and sweatshirts, as well as caps, jackets, flags, blankets, etc. By working at the School Spirit Store, you can meet other families in our community AND have first dibs on the cool items ordered!

Duties: Sell items to students and parents; re-stock shelves, just like a retail store

Dates: The Spirit Store is open school days  Time Required: 2 hours per day (7:30-9:30 am) and some afternoons

Descriptions of PAASH Events
As a parent at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, you are automatically a member of the Parents Association of the Academy of the Sacred Heart (PAASH).  Several times a year, PAASH meets to provide parents with up-to-date information about school activities. Please plan to attend.  It is a great way to get involved, meet other parents and stay informed.  After completing this form, check the Parents section of the web site for upcoming meeting dates.
All-School Family Picnic

Description: This is a welcome and welcome back event for all families. Meet new families and share summer experiences.

Duties: Help arrange food, activities and entertainment

Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week

Description: A chance to recognize our fabulous faculty and staff in many unique ways. Faculty and Staff Appreciation week closes with a luncheon catered by the parents.

Description: Fun-filled, action-packed afternoon for families.

Description: Many volunteers are needed for this event which is a luncheon with a guest speaker off campus.

Parent / Child Christmas Tea

Description: A Christmas prayer service begins this special holiday event chaired by the Junior class as a gift to the Senior class and their parents.  Later, Santa comes to a tea for all children and their parents to attend. There are holiday treats and music in the Field House.  Junior class parents as well as additional volunteers needed.

Duties: There are two groups of volunteers to set-up the Mass, brunch, and activities

Parent / Child Liturgy

Description: This is a very special family liturgy dedicated to our children. All Sacred Heart families are invited to attend.  Refreshments are served after Liturgy.
