Decentralised efficient and renewable energy has the power to put consumers at the centre of the energy transition. Democratizing energy will ensure householders and small business can benefit from secure, clean and affordable heat and electricity. While increasingly appealing, becoming a prosumer is still restricted by persistent regulatory and market barriers. Tackling barriers along with reducing product cost will ensure accessibility for all consumers to innovative on-site energy solutions, including small/micro-CHP, PV, heat pumps, solar thermal. Combined with smart grids deployment, demand response and building efficiency improvements, decentralised energy will ensure a flexible, decarbonised and cost-effective energy transition.
