Thank you for your interest in participating in the Marketing Standards Revision Work Group.

The South Dakota state standards are reviewed on a cycle approved by the State Board of Education as per SD codified law 13-3-48. Career & Technical Education standards are reviewed every five years. The current SD marketing standards were adopted in 2008. This means it is time to begin the process of reviewing standards in preparation for public hearings.

The Department of Education is seeking 20-25 work group members, including secondary Career & Technical Education teachers, postsecondary faculty, industry representatives, and parents to review and revise the current SD marketing standards. Other stakeholders who are interested in the process are also encouraged to apply.

Meeting dates are scheduled for June 12-14, 2017 in Sioux Falls on the campus of Southeast Technical Institute. Additional meetings may be held online as needed following the in-person sessions.

Work group participants will be responsible for reviewing and making appropriate revisions to current Marketing standards. Tasks will include, but are not limited to:
1.)Participating in training to review current labor market data and statewide Perkins data;
2.)Reviewing current courses and pathways;
3.)Revising standards to reflect current labor market needs and industry standards.

Participants will be compensated for their time at a rate of $25/hour for up to six eight-hour days. Meals, mileage, and lodging will also be reimbursed at state rates.

The deadline to apply for this work group is March 13, 2017. Applicants will be notified by the Department of Education in early April if they have been selected to participate in the work group.
