For over 30 years, the AACR Molecular Biology in Clinical Oncology Workshop has been a vital training ground for early-career oncologists, bridging clinical practice with laboratory research. Designed to address the underrepresentation of physician-scientists in cancer research, the program equips participants with hands-on experience in essential techniques, lectures from leading experts, and invaluable mentorship. Focused on career development, it offers guidance on grant writing, including crafting a strong Specific Aims page, and provides rich networking opportunities to foster collaboration and transition into research-based roles. This workshop continues to inspire and prepare future leaders to drive innovation in oncology care and treatment.

The AACR Integrative Molecular Epidemiology Workshop has trained over 400 early-career cancer researchers in advanced methods over the past decade. This immersive, week-long program blends foundational study design with the latest tools in genetics, data analysis, and bioinformatics, allowing participants to explore how genes, environment, and lifestyle contribute to cancer. Designed for molecular epidemiologists but also open to clinicians, statisticians, data scientists, and lab researchers, the workshop encourages a collaborative environment across different scientific disciplines. Participants gain practical skills and learn how to align the right tools to their research questions, preparing them to tackle current and future challenges in cancer research.

ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop

The ASCO/AACR Methods in Clinical Cancer Research Workshop is a transformative educational experience for clinical fellows and junior faculty across all oncology subspecialties, including radiation, surgical oncology, and radiology. Translational Cancer Research for Basic Scientists Workshop

2025 Program

The AACR Translational Cancer Research for Basic Scientists Workshop features an intensive week-long program designed to equip basic scientists with essential skills for translating their research into impactful clinical applications. Led by course Directors Drs. Ryan B. Corcoran, George D. Demetri, and Elaine R. Mardis, this intensive program provides a thorough overview of translational cancer research. Participants learn how to identify and communicate the translational value of their research, collaborate on multidisciplinary teams, effectively engage with industry partners, understand clinical needs, navigate regulatory issues, and incorporate patient and clinician perspectives to partner successfully on a project.

Robert A. Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials Award Program: Winn-AACR Design and Implementation of Clinical Trials Workshop

The Winn Career Development Award (Winn CDA) was established by Bristol Myers Squibb in 2020 to tackle one of the most persistent challenges in medicine: the lack of participation in clinical research. For decades, many populations most affected by disease have been left out of clinical trials because of cultural, socioeconomic, and geographic barriers. When research does not reflect the full spectrum of patients it aims to serve, the consequences can be serious. Treatments proven effective in one group may be less effective — or even unsafe — for others. Equally important, many communities are often denied timely access to the most innovative, potentially life-saving therapies.

The Winn CDA exists to change this by training a new generation of physician-researchers to lead the transformation of the clinical research landscape. The Winn CDA begins each fall with a virtual orientation in October, followed by an in-person, 4.5-day intensive workshop — the Robert A. Winn Excellence in Clinical Trials: Design and Implementation of Clinical Trials Workshop, presented in partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research® (Winn-AACR DICT Workshop). The Workshop provides foundational training in clinical trial design, development, implementation, and community engagement.
