1. STUDY INFORMATION - IRB Study 1106005793

You are invited to participate in a research study of attitudes about the workplace. You were selected as a possible subject because this study is specifically interested in women faculty in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. We ask that you read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the study.

The study is being conducted by Dr. Leslie Ashburn-Nardo, who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at IUPUI, and her student co-investigator. It is funded by an IUPUI Graduate Student Organization.

The purpose of this study is to examine perceptions of climate among female faculty in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

If you agree to be in the study, you will be asked to answer questions regarding your perceptions of your academic department, including perceived climate, availability of resources, job engagement, and job satisfaction. The survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete (some people may take less time; some people may take more time).

Efforts will be made to keep your personal information confidential. We cannot guarantee absolute confidentiality. Your personal information may be disclosed if required by law. Your identity will be held in confidence in reports in which the study may be published and databases in which results may be stored. Furthermore, we are not interested in the answers of any one individual, but rather in trends among groups of individuals. Thus, you will not be personally identified in this information when we write up the results to share with other researchers through presentations and publications.

Organizations that may inspect and/or copy your research records for quality assurance and data analysis include groups such as the study investigator and her research associates, the Indiana University Institutional Review Board or its designees, the study sponsor, IUPUI Graduate Student Organization, and (as allowed by law) state or federal agencies, specifically the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).

To thank people for taking the time to be in our study, we are awarding a $25 check to every 50th participant who takes part in the study. That means that the 50th participant wins $25, the 100th participant wins $25, and so on. At the end of the study, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address so that we can contact you if you win. Your contact information will be kept separate from your data and will be destroyed after all prizes have been awarded.
