Project Overview & Purpose
The City of Rome recognizes the importance of encouraging alternate modes of transportation and promoting greater connectivity utilizing a “Complete Streets” philosophy. Complete Streets are designed and operated to enable safe, attractive, and comfortable access for users of all ages and abilities. The purpose of the Woodhaven Area Complete Streets Study is to work with the community to identify mobility and safety needs throughout the Study Area and develop preferred concepts for future public improvements.

The Study Area primarily focuses on Floyd Avenue, from its intersection with Oakwood Street to State Route 825, with an ancillary focus on Park Drive, between Floyd Avenue and Vega Drive, and Ellsworth Rd from its intersection with Park Drive to Dart Circle and to the vehicle gate of Rome Free Academy (see Study Area Map below). The Study Area is largely dominated by residential development with a variety of housing types and densities, commercial development and educational uses. Major traffic generators within and surrounding the Study Area include Griffiss Business & Technology Park, Park Drive Apartments, the Mohawk Valley Community College, the Rome Free Academy, and the Jerry C. Clough Pre-K and administrative offices. Future traffic generators include the Air City Lofts, B-240, Rome YMCA, and the Woodhaven Housing Development.

The outcome of the Study will help the City conceptualize necessary improvements that will create a safer, more efficient and more inviting neighborhood that takes into consideration the needs of all travelers, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders and motorists. The City has created this survey as a springboard for identifying needs and prioritizing improvements. By completing this brief survey, we may gain information to better serve you in the future.
