WHAT IS WOMEN ROCK?
Starting college is exciting, but it can also be stressful as you balance classes, meet new people, and adjust to being in a new place.
Women ROCK is an innovative program at SPU just for freshmen women that can help you stay relaxed and make the most out of college.
We meet in small groups in the residence halls for one hour a week during Autumn Quarter to learn how to relax our bodies and minds in fun, interactive ways!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any freshman woman at SPU!
WHAT ARE THE GROUPS LIKE?
You’ll learn how stress affects your physical/emotional health and how it can get in the way of having a good college experience. We talk about how to recognize signs of stress in yourself and learn what to do about it. Women ROCK is not a class or a lecture. We fill each group with fun activities and spend about half the time actually practicing useful relaxation skills like progressive muscle relaxation and mindful eating!
WHEN & WHERE ARE THE GROUPS HELD?
Groups meet weekly throughout Autumn Quarter and begin the week of October 6th. We meet in the residence halls. You can choose to attend on any of the following nights:
Sundays, 7-8pm in Ashton Hall
Mondays, 7-8pm in Emerson Hall
Tuesdays, 7-8pm in Hill Hall
We encourage you to attend the group held in your residence hall because it’s convenient and is also a great way to get to know the other women in your hall. But if you can’t attend on your hall's night, you’re welcome to join a group on a different night!
DO I HAVE TO ATTEND THE GROUP EVERY WEEK?
We really encourage you to come every week because you'll get the most out of the program that way. However, there's no attendance requirement. We understand that freshman year is busy and that you likely have other activities going on, so it's okay if you can't make it every single week. However, those who do make 7 out of the 8 groups will be entered into a raffle to win a $50 Visa gift card!
WHO RUNS WOMEN ROCK?
Women ROCK is supported through SPU's Office of Academic Affairs, but is run by graduate psychology students and faculty. The group leaders are all female graduate students in their 20’s who understand the stresses of school!
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
