The Town of Winchester is working with Trash Pickers (a Town Manager Advisory Committee), the Department of Public Works, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, to increase recycling and simplify trash management. Currently, Winchester generates approximately 1 ton of trash per household per year. Many similar towns in Massachusetts generate 30 to 50% less per household than Winchester. That trash - everything that goes onto the Transfer Station conveyor belt - is burned, at $70 per ton, for an average annual cost to Winchester of about $670,000. The Town wants to increase recycling and decrease costs. Your thoughts about these topics are extremely important in helping guide trash management in Winchester, in preserving our environment, and in decreasing costs of trash disposal. Please let us know your thoughts by answering the questions here. The Survey is divided into three parts. Please try to answer all of the questions. We estimate that it will take about 15 minutes to complete. You will be entered in a random weekly drawing for GIFTS – coupons from Fells Hardware, T.L.S SPA Associates, Mahoney’s, Joe's Pizza, Pairings Wine and Food, Wadjet Gallery, A Tavola, Wright Locke Farm, and La Patisserie, among others - as well as compost pails, pins and more – if you include contact information at the end of the survey. And to the first 500 people completing the Survey, La Patisserie is offering a free Cookie. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Town Clerk, MaryEllen Lannon, or 781-721-7130.
