What is Youth Traffic Court?
Youth Traffic Court is a program that allows young drivers to resolve traffic tickets in a court led by their peers instead of appearing in adult court. The program is based on restorative justice, focusing on repairing harm rather than assigning punishment.
As a student volunteer, you play an important role by helping decide the conditions a young driver must complete in order to have their ticket dismissed.
Why Do We Need Student Volunteers?
Student volunteers are essential—you make the program possible. For each hearing, volunteers take on roles such as Judge, Bailiff, Mentor, and Circle Member. Roles are rotated so everyone has the chance to participate in positions they feel comfortable with.
The success of Youth Traffic Court depends on your involvement.
When is Youth Traffic Court?
Hearings are held at the Everett Division Courthouse on the last Friday of each month (excluding summer), starting at 2:30 PM.
To prepare, student volunteers meet the Friday before each hearing to review upcoming cases. Preparation sessions take place at Marysville Getchell High School at 1:00 PM, with a Zoom option available for those who cannot attend in person. (Please note: hearings must be attended in person; Zoom is only offered for prep sessions.)
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A STUDENT VOLUNTEER PLEASE PROVIDE US WITH YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION.
