2025-26 Wright to Read Parent/Guardian Application / 2025-26 Solicitud para padres de Wright to Read |
Program Overview | Reseña del programa
Thank you for your interest in participating in Wright to Read's literacy tutoring program.
Completion of this application does not automatically enroll your child in the program; your child's teacher/school must complete a referral form to be accepted and/or be assessed to determine current reading level. Please let Rachel know if you need this form translated to Arabic, Amharic, Dari, or another language in order to complete by emailing wrighttoread@campagnacenter.org.
Before you complete the form, please note:
- Wright to Read is a literacy program which offers free tutoring and mentoring services to qualified students in partnership with Alexandria City Public Schools.
- A trained volunteer/staff member will work directly with your child on reading and writing for one hour each week in person at a public space (ex. library, community center, etc.). You and the tutor will schedule the tutoring sessions to take place on weekday evenings or weekends, outside of school hours, unless your child has been invited to participate in the Wright to Read afterschool tutoring program at John Adams or Samuel Tucker elementary schools or the Early Literacy Program. Please note: tutoring is NOT allowed to occur at either the family’s or tutor’s home(s).
- Enrichment activities coordinated by Wright to Read are offered throughout the year to tutors and students as well as their families. Participation is strongly encouraged but not mandatory.
- Virtual tutoring should occur only in the case of prolonged travel or illness utilizing online platforms such as Zoom and BookNook.
- It is important that you communicate with the tutor/site facilitator via email or text message if your student cannot attend a session ideally 24 hours in advance. If two or more sessions are missed without this communication in advance, sessions will be suspended until staff can meet with the family. Uncommunicated session absences are cause for removal from the program. If communication is difficult with your tutor, please contact Wright to Read.
