Pop-Up Place: Innovating the future of social infrastructure

Have your design on display at City Hall during Design Week Portland!

Pop-up urban experiences continue to drive global interest in shaping the future of social infrastructure. This design competition asks you to flex your design muscles to create and build modular street furniture, large-scale games and modular sculpture.

Participants will have the option to donate their object to the Portland in the Streets program. Donated objects will be showcased to inspire conversation about how we utilize public spaces and implement objects that strengthen communities. After the competition, select entrants will be invited to display their designs for use during 2019 Portland Sunday Parkways, Last Thursdays on Alberta, block parties, and large community events.

The winner will receive the People's Choice Award, a unique trophy created by Felling Furniture Studio, and bragging rights for eternity.

Dates to know:

Setup at City Hall - April 8th (1 pm -5 pm)

Open House Event - April 8th (6 pm - 8 pm)

Designs on display - April 8-12th

People's Choice Award Announced - April 12th (2 pm)

Deconstruction of design - April 12th (2:15 pm- 5 pm)

- Able to be installed and removed in less than one hour with few to zero basic tools
- Can be packed flat, be nest-able, or pack into a rolling container for storage
- Be safe for the public to utilize while unsupervised
- Maximum one-foot by one-foot space for object branding purposes.
