BCW 2019 "A Woman Who Inspires Me" Contest

In celebration of National Women’s History Month, the Brookline Commission for Women is sponsoring its 27th annual essay contest to honor the women who inspire us most.  To participate in the contest, we would like to hear about a woman who is important to you and why she is so special.  Talk with her, get to know her, learn about her life and share with us why she inspires you.  Remember, seemingly "ordinary" women have done extraordinary things!  This person can  be your doctor, babysitter, neighbor, friend, mother, teacher, etc. 

When writing your essay, please follow the rules:  
Eligible Grades: 

To be eligible, you must be in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade and live in Brookline or  attend one of the Brookline  public or private schools. 

The Essay:    

1) Your essay should be 500 words or less.

2) Your essay can be typed or hand written and should use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. 
3) Remember to include the name of your inspiring woman in your essay.
4) Your subject must be someone you know personally and is currently living.

Deadline: 

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, February 28, 2019.  Essays must be submitted through this form.  

Awards:   

An awards ceremony is planned for March 21, 2019 where winning essays will be acknowledged and read out loud by the author. The women who inspired the essays, along with the authors’ families will be invited to attend.  Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each grade.  The Brookline Woman of the Year will also be honored at the ceremony.  The ceremony will be at 6:30pm in Hunneman Hall at the Brookline Public Library.
