Dress for Success Toronto's 2024 BIPOC Youth Cohort

Program Overview

Who should apply:

The goal of this Cohort is to provide a community of ongoing support for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) women* as they work to grow their careers.

To be eligible you must meet all these criteria:
  • Self-identify as a woman ages 18-29.
  • Living in the GTHA (Greater Toronto Hamilton Area).
  • Self-identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour).
  • Looking to make connections with other BIPOC women.
  • Looking to advance their careers.
  • Access to technology to attend virtual sessions.
Once your application has been received, those who meet the above criteria will be invited to participate in a 30 minute intake conversation on Zoom. We will confirm the status of all applicants.

Cohort Structure & Dates:

This hybrid program (offered at no cost to participants) features monthly discussion-style workshops on Zoom. Participants and special guests will be encouraged to share knowledge, discuss the unique lived experiences of BIPOC women and engage in dynamic group conversations.

All virtual sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 7:30 PM EST:

  • Thursday, May 23, 2024 | Code Switching and Imposter Syndrome
  • Thursday, June 20, 2024 | Telling Your Story and Self-Perception
  • Thursday, July 18, 2024 | Money Management and Financial Literacy
  • Thursday, August 22, 2024 | Managing Challenging Conversations and Belonging in the Workplace
  • Thursday, September 19, 2024 | Job Application Process - Disclosure, Concealing and Downplaying
  • Thursday, October 17, 2024 | Networking - Mastering Connections for Success
  • Thursday, November 21, 2024 | Pathways Forward, Career Movement and Planning
In addition to these online sessions there will be in-person opportunities to network with other BIPOC women and working professionals. Event dates will be shared once the cohort starts. Participants will also be invited to join the DFS Toronto Cohort Alumni LinkedIn Group.

Application Dates & Deadlines

We will be accepting applications throughout the year, however we recommend applying early to benefit from attending as many of the sessions as possible. Online applications will be accepted until March 29, 2024. After this date applicants must contact the Youth Program Lead at tislam@dressforsuccesstoronto.org

We are interested in seeing the on-going impact of this program on the participants. By submitting this application you confirm that you are able to commit to an additional 6 & 12-month post-program follow-up Check-in activity with Dress for Success Toronto.

Please also be advised that the first Check-in will be one-on-one with a DFS Staff member and will occur over Zoom. Successful candidates will be contacted in early April to schedule this initial Check-in session.

*DFS Toronto defines “women'' in a gender expansive way to include any woman-identified person - cis, trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, gender queer, and Two-Spirit.
