Survey Information and cover letter

We at Baylor College of Medicine Physician Assistant Program are beginning to research the comparison of AI-generated differential diagnoses with those of experienced healthcare professionals. We are contacting you because we believe you may be eligible as a medical provider in Texas and within the United States.
The study will evaluate the accuracy of AI in generating differential diagnoses for common medical conditions. The survey includes three case studies, each with ten differential diagnoses. As a medical provider, you are asked to read each case and then rank the 10 differentials from most likely to least likely. If you fill out this anonymous survey, you are consenting or agreeing to take part in this research.
This survey is anonymous, and data will only be reported in aggregate. The primary risk is the loss of confidentiality. Although the survey responses will be de-identified through SurveyMonkey, there is a minimal risk of data breaches. To mitigate this risk, secure data handling procedures and encryption will be used. By completing the survey, you consent to have your responses analyzed and reported in aggregate with those of other respondents. The survey should take approximately less than 10 minutes.
It will not cost you to take part in this study. We will not pay you to take part.
If you have any questions about this survey or the study, please contact Stephanie DeSandro, MS, PA-C at desandro@bcm.edu. If you have additional questions about your rights as a research subject, contact the Institutional Review Board for Human Subject Research for Baylor College of Medicine & Affiliated Hospitals at (713) 798-6970.
Thank you for your time.

A 65-year-old Caucasian male with pre-existing hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and Type II Diabetes Mellitus presents to the Emergency Room with sudden onset weakness on the right side of his body and difficulty speaking after experiencing a severe left sided headache. His wife, who accompanied him, reports that he had been experiencing a severe left-sided headache before the symptoms began. Vital signs revealed a blood pressure of 180/98, heart rate of 98 bpm, respiratory rate of 19 breaths/min, temperature of 98.6 F, and an oxygen saturation on room air of 97%. On physical exam, he is alert but appears distressed, and his speech is slurred and difficult to understand. There is right-sided facial drooping and when asked to smile, his right facial muscles exhibited weakness as compared to the left. Additionally, there is weakness in his right arm and leg accompanied by limited movement, and decreased sensation on the right side of his body.

* 7. Rank the following 10 differential diagnoses from 'most likely' (1) to 'least likely' (10) based on the current symptoms and physical exam findings.

Case Study 2

A 72-year-old African American male with hypertension, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and coronary artery disease presents to the Emergency Room complaining of chest pain, worsening shortness of breath, and swelling in his legs over the past few weeks. He reports no new medications and no prior similar experiences. He was prescribed medication for his blood pressure but has been non-compliant for the past 5 years. Further questioning reveals that he has difficulty walking up and down stairs to his apartment for the past 2 months. As you begin the physical exam, he is sitting upright on the bed, visibly uncomfortable, experiencing shortness of breath, and appears diaphoretic. Cardiovascular exam reveals basilar crackles over both lower lung fields, an enlarged heart with displaced maximum impulse (PMI), a II/VI systolic murmur over the mitral area, and edema over both shins with pitting lasting for 6 seconds when pressure is applied.

Question Title

* 9. Rank the following 10 differential diagnoses from 'most likely' (1) to 'least likely' (10) based on the current symptoms and physical exam findings.

Case Study 3

A 66-year-old unhoused Caucasian female with a 2 pack per day tobacco use for 50 years, presents to the Emergency Room with complaining of difficulty breathing without any significant prior illness or injury. She reports experiencing increasing shortness of breath and cough over the past 3 months, believing it stemmed from a flu episode that never resolved. Additionally, she has noticed an increased susceptibility to illness compared to previous years. On physical examination, she is observed leaning on the edge of the bed and breathing with her lips pursed. She appears pale and malnourished. Auscultation her lungs reveals prolonged expiration and increased resonance to percussion bilaterally. You also note clubbing of her nails.
