1. Introduction

Bedfordshire Police Authority is an independent body of 17 members that monitor and scrutinise the performance of Bedfordshire Police Force. One of our roles is to set the Police budget and priorities each year. To do this we need to know what is important to you.

You will be aware that spending is being reduced across many public services. This year Bedfordshire Police Force is saving £6 million by:

• A specific review of the supporting departments that look after the finances, human resources, buildings and cars

• Continuing to challenge every part of the budget to make sure it is money well spent

• Continuing to work more closely with Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police to share specialist departments

• Using ‘continuous improvement’ thinking to make sure they are working more smartly to get the most out of your money

These actions have enabled Bedfordshire Police Force to launch its new Local Policing Model. The Force has changed many of its structures and practices and we are keen to hear if these changes have had any impact on you. From next November these decisions and other responsibilities of the Police Authority will transfer to the newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner.
