Making YM a true community

Yearly Meeting relies on Friends offering what service they can to our community.

If you were hoping to be a daily volunteer on the children's programme you should visit www.quaker.org.uk/daily-volunteer-childrens-programme

We hope by inviting all Friends to offer what they can and also how they'd prefer to be used from the list below, we can share the load and joy of service. Depending on what you offer we may ask a little of you life experience to make sure we use you wisely.
Pastoral care:
Pastoral Care Group (PCG) has replaced the former YM overseers and Accessibility and Support Group. Their role is to provide help, but not professional expertise, to Friends when situations arise unexpectedly during YM. (It is hoped that local and area meetings will make advanced provision for Friends who have known need for help and support.)
A rota of volunteers is needed to work with members of the PCG at Yearly Meeting mostly at the Pastoral Care desk and in Yearly Meeting sessions. Practical help may be needed or a listening ear. The rota will be divided into 2-3hr shifts and the expectation is that volunteers will do no more than 3 shifts. They will be adequately briefed and supported by members of the Pastoral Care Group.
If you'd like to speak to a member of the Pastoral Care core team to find out more before offering please e-mail to ym@quaker.org.uk
Door keeping or microphone stewarding:
Door keepers need to be on the doors from 20 minutes before sessions and stay on at the doors until after the rise of the session. Thye need a welcoming disposition but they will also need to make sure Friends arriving late are not let in until the clerk indicates they can be.
Microphone stewarding is about getting microphones to speakers unobtrusively. Many microphone stewards will drop to their knees to become invisible once they've handed the microphone to a speaker so an ability to genuflect would be an advantage (it's not often you can say that in a Quaker context).
Helping on the Information Desk and welcoming:
These are just a matter of pointing Friends to the right places. It's a great way to say hello to lots of Friends.
