YOUR FEEDBACK

A vision for the future

In 2022 we asked people what they hoped Kyogle and the surrounding areas would be like in 10 years’ time. We used that feedback to develop the vision in the current CSP which is reflected in the statements below.

Question Title

* 1. Looking to the future, is it important to you that Kyogle and the surrounding areas have:

  Important Not important Unsure
A thriving local economy
Diverse people engaged in community life
High quality road, public transport and telecommunications connections
Maintained their unique character and way of life
Attractive, friendly and safe towns and villages
Demonstrated leadership in sustainability
Prepared and resilient communities
Infrastructure and services, including housing, that meets local needs
Key focus areas
The objectives and strategies in the CSP are arranged under four focus area headings – Prosperity, Housing, Liveability and Sustainability. These areas reflect what we heard in 2022 and respond to the opportunities and challenges facing the LGA.

Question Title

* 2. Please rank the following focus areas in order of how important they are to you (with 1 being the most important and 4 the least)

Prosperity
Prosperity is about a lot more than just money. It’s about having the right job opportunities to attract and retain people in the area, it’s about having a good variety of local shops and businesses that provide the community with access to the products and services they need. It’s also about appropriate economic growth and a healthy environment that supports quality of life.

Question Title

* 3. Which of the following objectives do you think we should try to achieve together over the next 10 years to improve PROSPERITY for the Kyogle LGA and community?
(Choose all that apply)

Housing
Having secure, affordable accommodation in a safe, appropriate home is a basic human right but for many in our community finding a suitable home is becoming more and more difficult. Like many regional areas, the Kyogle LGA has an ageing population and this will likely lead to a change in the types of housing needed. It’s important that we create the right conditions for growth and choice in the local housing market, to provide the accommodation options required by our communities.

Question Title

* 4. Which of the following objectives do you think we should try to achieve together over the next 10 years to improve access to appropriate HOUSING in the Kyogle LGA?
(Choose all that apply)

Liveability
Friendly, peaceful, rural, green and community-minded are all words people use to describe what they love about living in and around Kyogle. A stable population will support some of the things people value like local shops, social and cultural activities, open-spaces, amenities, schools and services. That’s why it’s important we provide well maintained, well-serviced and attractive towns and villages where people want to live, as well as a healthy environment that contributes to the wellbeing and prosperity of the community. Beyond places and spaces, there is a recognition that community spirit is something that needs to be supported and nurtured and a desire to focus on people as well as assets.

Question Title

* 5. Which of the following objectives do you think we should try to achieve together over the next 10 years to improve LIVEABILITY in the Kyogle LGA?
(Choose all that apply)

Sustainability
Residents and visitors to Kyogle value the natural environment. It’s one of the things that attracts people to the area and gives Kyogle its sense of place. There is a strong desire within the community to protect native plants, animals and ecosystems and build our resilience to natural disasters such as droughts, fire and floods. Sustainability involves considering how we live, work, and play impacts the environment, positively or negatively.
