The Welfare Expert Advisory Group has been brought together to ensure that New Zealand has a welfare system that is accessible and fair for all New Zealanders; a welfare system that ensures people have an adequate income and standard of living, are treated with and can live in dignity and are able to participate meaningfully in their communities.

Our welfare system is large and complicated and has a big impact on the lives of lots of people with very limited resources.  There are inequities that need to be addressed in ways that will treat people more fairly and also encourage them to be earning, learning, caring or volunteering, thereby ensuring a better future for all New Zealanders.

This is an ambitious goal, and we will be providing advice to the Government on options to make this happen.

Everyone’s views are important.  We want to hear what New Zealand thinks, especially what is working well and not so well and any ideas you might have to ensure we have a social welfare system that is delivering compassionate, timely and appropriate support for those in need.

There are five key questions that we would like to hear your views on.

We have kept these questions broad so that they capture the full range of issues and solutions you may wish to share with us.

Please answer as many, or as few, of the questions as you want.
