The Basics

Bootblack Round-Up prides itself on being a bootblack-centric event that provides excellent education and learning opportunities for both new and experienced bootblacks. As an education centered event, we are dedicated to providing superior classes and education opportunities.

In 2019, we will be limiting the number of classes offered, and working hard to ensure that they meet our, and our attendees’ standards. Feedback from our attendees in 2018 was that they want to participate in their learning and attend hands-on classes. We agree that the best way to learn is to do, and in 2019, Bootblack Round-Up is dedicated to providing that opportunity.

Because of our hands-on focus, there are some specific things you should know before you decide to apply to present:
  1. Classes will be 90 minutes each. Please be sure you can both fill the time while staying on schedule.
  2. Classes must be hands-on. We will ask that you describe in your application how the attendees of the class will be participating in their learning.
  3. Not everyone learns exclusively by doing. Please provide us with a handout that summarizes the basics of what you’ve covered, including any specific supplies that might be needed. Handouts provided to us no later than September 1 will be printed and brought to the venue for you. After September 1, you will need to print your handouts on your own.
  4. Bootblack Round-Up is a free event. All proceeds of fundraisers are donated to charity. Because Bootblack Round-Up has no money coming in, we are not able to provide assistance with the cost of transportation or lodging. We are happy to try to help you make connections with others that might be willing to share the cost of driving or lodging expenses. Once we’ve made the connection, you’ll be able to work directly with them to make arrangements.
  5. You will need to provide a photo for the Bootblack Round-Up website at the time of your application. You can send it to bootblackroundup@gmail.com. You will provide your bio and class descriptions here.
