The Development of a new Water Allocation Plan for the Far North Prescribed Wells Area.
Far North Resources Values and Risks Survey
The South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resources Management Board and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources are currently updating the Water Allocation Plan (WAP) for the Far North Prescribed Wells Area. The Far North Water Allocation Plan manages the allocation and use of groundwater resources in the area. The plan considers the needs of all water users, including the environment, and the rules for water management are based on balancing these needs. Your opinions are a valuable part of the process of updating the plan, and you can help shape this plan by completing the following short survey. The South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resources Management Board and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources would like your local knowledge, understanding, and interest in the management of the groundwater resources of the area, to help identify what the community values most about these water resources, and what you think the biggest threats to these water resources are. – don’t forget the GAB springs (mound springs) are part of the groundwater system we are talking about! We are not starting from scratch… the current water allocation plan has been in place since 2009 and we have just completed the revision of the Regional Plan which has provided some valuable information from community members about the groundwater resources of the Far North. All of this information will help inform this update. Further information on the current Far North Water Allocation Plan can be found by visiting the SA Arid Lands website. Staff working on the Far North Water Allocation Plan are also available to discuss the project.
