WAKE UP or PROCEED
survey on failed intubation in obstetrics

Dear Colleague,

In the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association (OAA) and Difficult Airway Society (DAS) Guidelines for the Management of Difficult and Failed Tracheal Intubation in Obstetrics, nine factors are identified to assist decision-making when considering whether to wake the mother or proceed with surgery following failed tracheal intubation.

Seven of these factors should be considered before induction of anaesthesia, and two after failed tracheal intubation.

Please grade each subcategory of these factors with one possible answer among: strongly favour waking the mother, probably favour waking the mother, neutral, probably favour proceeding with surgery and strongly favour proceeding with surgery.
