SGNA CGRN Exam Essentials Course Subject Matter Expert (SME) Application

SGNA is soliciting volunteers with relevant subject matter expertise to serve as speakers for the CGRN Exam Essentials Course as offered by SGNA.

This course is intended for Registered Nurses who are interested in a comprehensive overview of key areas related to gastroenterology nursing practice and/or preparing to take the CGRN exam offered by the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses (ABCGN).

CGRN Exam Essentials Course
The CGRN Exam Essentials is a one-day virtual course offering 8.0 nursing contact hours, typically offered one to four times per year. There are two speakers for each course. Speakers for the course are expected to present during scheduled courses. Speakers receive an honorarium.

Note: Observation of a course is highly encouraged for new CGRN Exam Essentials speakers.
In addition to presenting during the course, speakers are strongly encouraged to review the existing teaching materials and update the content based on current standards and guidelines and relevant publications.

SMEs should meet the following requirements:
  • Certification through the ABCGN
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with SGNA standards and practice guidelines
  • Responsiveness to email in a timely manner (24-72 hours) related to courses

3.It is the policy of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA) that all faculty participating in any SGNA-sponsored educational program must disclose any actual, potential or perceived relevant financial relationships that may have a direct bearing on the subject matter being presented.

Such conflict may include, but not be limited to:

1. Any impropriety or perceived impropriety between the official activities of SGNA and paid or unpaid activities for other professional organizations.

2. Any speaker having a relevant relationship with an *ineligible company which includes but is not limited to receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, honoraria, ownership interest (e.g., stock), grants, contracts, or other financial benefit directly or indirectly from the ineligible company.

* Ineligible companies are those whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. Examples include but are not limited to device manufacturers or distributors, diagnostic labs, pharmaceutical companies.

It is not the intent of this policy to prevent a speaker with potential conflicts of interest from speaking. However, it is imperative that these relationships be identified and resolved to ensure the integrity of the content.
