TITLE OF STUDY: Environmental Supports for Meaning in Life

WHY AM I BEING INVITED TO TAKE PART IN THIS RESEARCH? You are being invited to take part in this research because you are an adult, over the age of 18, who accessed this survey through Michael F. Steger's website.

WHO IS DOING THE STUDY? Michael Steger is conducting this research study.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY? The purpose of this study is to better understand what makes people’s lives feel meaningful by asking people about their experiences in life.

WHERE IS THE STUDY GOING TO TAKE PLACE AND HOW LONG WILL IT LAST? This study will take place on the internet, at a place and time of your choosing. You will be asked to complete 6 questionnaires, and the total amount of time will be 5-15 minutes.

WHAT WILL I BE ASKED TO DO? In this research, you will be asked to complete 6 questionnaires hosted on a secure website. The surveys will ask you questions about meaning in life, your relationships, and your experiences at work.

ARE THERE REASONS WHY I SHOULD NOT TAKE PART IN THIS STUDY?
You should not take part in this study if you are younger than 18 years old.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS AND DISCOMFORTS? There are no foreseeable risks other than possible discomfort in answering personal questions, and the possible stressfulness of the reaction time task. If you are uncomfortable answering any question, you may skip it or stop participation at any time. There may also be unforseen risks. It is not possible to identify all potential risks in research procedures, but the researcher(s) have taken reasonable safeguards to minimize any known and potential, but unknown, risks.

ARE THERE ANY BENEFITS FROM TAKING PART IN THIS STUDY? The possible benefits of this study include improved understanding of what makes people’s lives feel meaningful. The information collected may not benefit you directly.

DO I HAVE TO TAKE PART IN THE STUDY? Your participation in this research is voluntary. If you decide to participate in the study, you may withdraw your consent and stop participating at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.

WHAT WILL IT COST ME TO PARTICIPATE? There are no costs to participate in this research.

WHO WILL SEE THE INFORMATION THAT I GIVE?
We will delete all research records that identify you, to the extent allowed by law. Your information will be combined with information from other people taking part in the study. If we write about the study to share it with other researchers, we will write about the combined information we have gathered. You will not be identified in these written materials. We may publish the results of this study; however, we will keep any possible identifying information private.

CAN MY TAKING PART IN THE STUDY END EARLY? The study is intended to be completed during one sitting, if you only completed a small number of the surveys included in this study, you could be dropped from the study.

* 1. WILL I RECEIVE ANY COMPENSATION FOR TAKING PART IN THIS STUDY?
There is no compensation for completing the surveys.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM INJURED BECAUSE OF THE RESEARCH? The Colorado Governmental Immunity Act determines and may limit Colorado State University's legal responsibility if an injury happens because of this study. Claims against the University must be filed within 180 days of the injury.
