ALTA HISTORY PROJECT QUESTIONNAIRE |
This is a questionnaire to evaluate possible community engagement in and contributions to the ALTA History Project. This project will be ongoing but will have a milestone unveiling on the occasion of ALTA50 in 2028.
This effort will be collaborative, involving contributions from members (both old and new), conference attendees, staff, and other members of ALTA's community that will help to shape the ALTA History Timeline and improve other institutional records, like the Awards Database.
There will be ways to contribute at varying levels of commitment. Your input in this questionnaire will help us to structure pathways to involvement and refine project goals.
Background: ALTA was founded in 1978 by a cohort of translators at the University of Texas, Dallas to develop cultural communication and understanding through the art and craft of literary translation with an annual conference. ALTA has since expanded into a nonprofit arts membership association that provides resources, community, support, and advocacy to the translation community. As ALTA approaches its 50th anniversary, we are reflecting on the organization’s legacy and making historical records more complete and accessible.
