Scholarship Overview

PURPOSE:
To enhance diversity in the Middle Tennessee tech industry, the WiTT LGBTQ+ Scholarship supports an LGBTQ+ student in the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area who intends to pursue a career in a technology-related field.

THE AWARD:
WiTT will award $3,500 to the selected high school student and a 1-year membership to WiTT. Winners must provide WiTT with college enrollment and financial aid information.

REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered, applicants must: 

  • Identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ Community
  • Be a graduating high school senior enrolling in a 4-year college/university next fall OR an active college freshman, sophomore, or junior enrolled 4-year college/university within the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area (Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Macon, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson counties)
  • Have a passion for technology and plan to pursue a career in a technology-related field
  • Demonstrate high academic achievement with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously received a WiTT scholarship
APPLICATION MATERIALS:
Applicants will need to submit the following materials by April 15 in order to to be considered: 

  • Completed application
  • Resume showcasing academic achievements, community involvement, internships or work experience, etc.
  • Transcript showing GPA on 4.0 scale; if another grading scale is utilized, applicants should work with their respective guidance counselor or academic advisor to calculate the GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Letter of Recommendation from a teacher or person from the student’s community who is not a relative
  • Essay: As part of an underrepresented group, how has that experience formed who you are today, and how do you plan to use that experience in a career in technology to lift up others in the future?
    • Up to two pages (1.5 to double line spacing)
    • Particular attention will be paid to student’s efforts in supporting the community and interest in a technology-related career
    • Particular attention will be paid to grammar, spelling, style and presentation
