Volunteering with AGU is one of the most meaningful ways to give back to the Earth and space science community. Last year, over 25,000 members volunteered with AGU to support the Earth and space science community!

AGU volunteers serve on committees that shape the organization’s direction, take on governance and leadership roles, guide organizational policy, uphold scientific excellence as reviewers and editors for our renowned journals, and much more.

AGU supports Earth and space science students and early career scientists in a variety of ways

Opportunities include serving as a travel grant reviewer, OSPA reviewer, and mentor.
Student and early career members have additional opportunities to serve within their section.

AGU advocates for scientists and helps scientists communicate with their community and their policymakers

Opportunities include participating in Congressional Visit Days, advocating with Voices for Science, serving on a position statement writing panel, and engaging as a Local Science Partner.

AGU's Board of Directors is responsible for the legal, financial, reputational and strategic aspects of the organization.

The
Council is a large, diverse forum of perspectives, providing input to the staff and other volunteer groups.

Union-level committees partner with staff experts to advance key programs and activities.

Opportunities include running for election to the AGU Board or the AGU Council (both student/early career scientists and section leaders), and serving as a member of a Union-level committees and task forces.

AGU's Thriving Earth Exchange pairs scientists with community leaders to address pressing concerns

Opportunities include providing technical assistance as a volunteer scientist, training as a project manager, or starting a project as a community representative.

Opportunities involve informing the direction of AGU development efforts, connecting AGU with philanthropic organizations and private sector companies, and serving on fundraising projects within the AGU membership community.
