In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and to protect the health and safety of its families, TECH CORPS will implement Techie Club virtually this fall. This after-school program is offered through generous support from our funders, including: Facebook, State Auto, AEP and the City of Columbus. These sponsors are each deeply committed to education and their community.
During the virtual Techie Club, students will engage in hands-on, interactive activities tied directly to national Computer Science standards for elementary and middle school students. The lessons focus on a variety of computing topics, promote 21st-century skills and provide students with an awareness of technology and tech-related careers.
The goal of Techie Club is to expose students to different technology concepts, to incite interest, and to encourage exploration. Importantly, industry volunteers from the community work with students throughout the program, enabling students to learn about future careers directly from those who already have them and enabling community members to empower the next generation of technology innovators.
Techie Club is comprised of up to 20 students and sessions will run on Monday's, Tuesday's, Wednesday's or Thursday's from 4:30-5:30p from October 4th - November 11th. TECH CORPS staff will train and support instructors that will lead each session with the assistance of tech-savvy volunteers. Volunteers will have ten minutes each week to engage and introduce students to computing topics.
