FREE* Training: Volunteers and the Law

Do you want to know more about the legal requirements and issues for organisations that involve volunteers?
This practical Zoom session will provide an introduction to the key areas of law that affect volunteers and Volunteer Involving Organisations. It will cover health and safety, risk assessment, insurance, safeguarding, criminal record checks, intellectual property and data protection. It will explore issues of employment law, such as the difference between contracts and volunteer agreements, guidance on expenses, the Minimum Wage and volunteering while on welfare benefits. We will also consider issues around engaging volunteers from overseas, including refugees and asylum seekers. This session will help you to identify minimum legal requirements and good practice for your organisation.

Venue: Zoom. If you are allocated a place, you will be sent a Zoom link to access the training. Please ensure you have a stable internet connection and have downloaded the latest version of Zoom (https://zoom.us/download).

Priority will be given to voluntary sector organisations with a base/office in Tower Hamlets, or that have services aimed at Tower Hamlets residents.

Our training programme is funded by the City Bridge Foundation.
· The session is FREE to voluntary sector and public sector organisations with a base/office in Tower Hamlets, or that have services aimed in Tower Hamlets residents. However, there is a non-attendance charge of £50 and this charge will be invoiced to your organisation if you do not attend without giving 48 hours’ notice. There is no charge incurred if bookings are cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the start of the session.
· For any organisation without a base or services in Tower Hamlets, or private sector/commercial organisations, the session costs £50 per person. The fee is non-refundable, unless you give 48 hours’ notice of cancellation.

AI bots / assistants: if you are booking a place at an online event, you must join the meeting yourself. AI bots or “assistants” will not be admitted to VCTH online events.
