Thank you for your interest in working with the Patients Association.

The Patients Association and the Health Services Safety Investigation Body (HSSIB) are partnering to explore the experiences and views of patients and carers on patient engagement and patient safety, and what areas HSSIB could examine in future.

These insights will help HSSIB develop an engagement strategy as part of their ‘business as usual’ for patient safety investigations, and contribute towards HSSIB’s wider work in determining what issues it should prioritise in future. This may involve discussing your own experiences of using the NHS.

HSSIB is an independent arm’s length body of the Department of Health and Social Care that investigates patient safety concerns across the NHS in England, to understand why patients may have been harmed or be at risk of harm. It can also investigate in independent, or private, health care settings, where there may be safety lessons for the NHS.

HSSIB’s investigations focus on learning and do not find blame with individuals or organisations. Its vision is to make healthcare care safe for everyone through investigations, education, and working together.

To help HSSIB develop its patient engagement strategy, we want to hear your views and experiences of patient engagement and of patient safety, in a detailed conversation over four focus groups.

After the first two groups, HSSIB will develop its patient engagement strategy, and in the third and fourth groups you will have the chance to feedback on what has been produced (we will arrange dates for the last two groups during the project). Full details will be shared with all selected participants.

We particularly keen to hear patients and carers experiencing health inequalities, from marginalised communities, and from areas of high deprivation, to ensure these voices are heard.

All the information participants share with us will be anonymous. Every participant will receive a Love2Shop voucher worth £80 for participating in each focus group, as well as £60 to cover carers costs if relevant.

We hope you will join us in our work on this vital topic.
