Tutor Application

We are so glad you are interested in being a tutor at Palmetto Place! Please fill out this short application and we will be in touch soon. If you have any questions please email grace@palmettoplaceshetler.org.

About Palmetto Place:
It is our mission to provide a safe and supportive environment to kids and teens who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Under this mission we have two programs: One for kids ages 12-18 who are in foster care and a homeless teen program for kids ages 17-21.
In addition to providing food, shelter and safety we provide life skills training, medical and mental health care, employment training and educational support - That's where you come in.

The Tutoring Program:
We rely on tutors to help our kids keep their grades up and master their classes. Tutors will apply to the program using this application. Tutors must have strong skills or experience in teaching the subjects they sign up for.

After applying, a tutor will be notified via email when a kid has requested their help. Any kid or teen in our care can request additional help in specific subjects and will be set up with an individual tutor. Also, kids who's grades drop below passing will be assigned a tutor for those subjects. Tutors are expected to spend at least one hour a week working with each of their students. Tutors can sign up to help one or more kids, depending on availability.

Once a tutor is assigned a kid they will need to pass a background check and TB test.

Note: Not every application submitted can be selected as a homework helper or tutor. We try to fit students with the best volunteer match. To increase your chances please include all relevant teaching experience.
