VACCHO acknowledges that we live and work on Aboriginal lands. We pay our respect to Traditional Owners, Ancestors and Elders. We acknowledge First Nations peoples' continuing connection to lands, waters and skies.

The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System started in March 2019 and a final Report with recommendations detailing how Victoria’s Mental Health System could be better designed is scheduled for November 2020. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has committed the Victorian State Government to accepting all recommendations in full so this is important!

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to be provided with culturally insensitive and unsafe practices, and experience racism within Victoria’s mental health system. The Commission is looking at ways to improve Victoria’s mental health system, so it’s vital that Victorian Aboriginal communities’ voices are heard.

Face-to-face Community consultations have been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions; so the Commission has decided to record stories digitally as well as focus on existing information for their final Report. As a result, VACCHO has decided to capture Communities’ experiences and thoughts about Victoria’s mental health system through two surveys and a number of face-to-face consultations. You can access more information here on VACCHO's website.

As frontline workers, it’s really important that your voices are heard, as you are the one who interact daily with the mental health system, and see the fall out of its failings and shortcomings. It’s really important that we do everything we can to address these shortcomings for Mob.

No identifying or personal data will be collected with this survey. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to share your experiences in greater detail, please contact Jirra Harvey on jirra@kalinya.com.au

We really appreciate the time you’re taking to complete the survey.
