The South Dakota state standards are reviewed on a cycle approved by the State Board of Education Standards as per SD codified law 13-3-48.  The current SD standards for physical education were last adopted in 2014, and are up for review and adoption during the 2020-2021 school year.  This means it is time to begin reviewing the current South Dakota physical education standards and outcomes. 

The standards review process will take place virtually during the summer of 2020.

The state is soliciting approximately 30 workgroup members comprised of K-12 educators, post-secondary educators, administrators or curriculum directors.  Applications will be taken through May 1, 2020 at 4:00 pm. 

Physical education workgroup members will be paid for work completed.  
At this time dates and times for common virtual workgroup meetings have not been selected. However, members that are selected to participate in workgroups will help select when meetings are held.
Participants should expect review of the standards to begin at the end of May, and to conclude in June.
