Submissions for the shortest of short stories are now open to celebrate Love Your Bookshop Day. Pen a story in 50 words and under to win a prize pack of books and a $25 Gift Voucher to spend on books at Where The Wild Things Are.

With categories for Preschool, 7-9 year olds, 10-13 years and 14+ everyone in the family can submit their own Flash Fiction. To help us celebrate all things bookshop your story needs to include one or all of the following elements:

1 the word "bookshop" or "pages";
2 a musical instrument; and/or
3 the word "wild" in any form e.g. "wildly" "wilderness" "bewildered"

Known as Flash Fiction, perhaps the most famous and shortest story was purportedly penned by Ernest Hemingway - "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." Other writers of flash fiction have included Anton Chekhov, Franz Kafka, Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Bradbury and Kurt Vonnegut Jnr.

We believe that it is huge challenge to tell a story in fifty words and we are really looking forward to judging and reading the entries at this year's Love Your Bookshop Day." Where the Wild Things Are co-owner, Fiona Stager

Entries for Where the Wild Things Are Flash Fiction Prize close at midday on Saturday 10th August with readings of shortlisted entries and the winner announced at 3.00pm on Love Your Bookshop Day, Saturday 10th August at Where the Wild Things Are. Come along and read your entry.
