By 2027, GS1 will sunset reliance on traditional UPC barcodes and encourage brands to adopt 2D QR codes built on GS1 Digital Link standards. While this isn’t a forced mandate, the transition opens the door to smarter packaging - enabling richer product data, streamlined supply chain operations, and enhanced consumer engagement - a true win globally for both brands and consumers.
