Introduction

You are invited to participate in a short survey to provide feedback on draft agricultural tenancy questions.

Please note that this survey is specifically for farmers who hold at least one agricultural tenancy agreement in Scotland.

What is the purpose of this survey?
The survey is being run by independent research organisation Alma Economics, on behalf of the Scottish Government. This will contribute to exploratory research on reinstating agricultural tenancy data collection in Scotland.

Why participate?
Collecting high-quality data on the evolving agricultural tenancy landscape is crucial for policymakers to make decisions which best support and protect Scotland’s agricultural sector. Agricultural tenancy questions were removed from the June Agricultural Census (JAC) in 2021, in part due to poor data quality, however there is still an ongoing need for this information.

This research is focused on understanding how future questions could be clearer, easier to respond to, and more user-friendly for respondents across Scotland. The recommendations that come out of this research will be sent to the Scottish Government for use in future agricultural surveys.

What do I have to do?
The survey consists of four main parts:
  1. An introduction, guiding you to completing the questionnaire
  2. Questions about the tenancy type(s) you hold
  3. A user experience section asking for feedback on clarity, ease, and accuracy of the questions
  4. A brief demographics section to provide context for the responses.
The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Responses can be submitted until the 21st of October, at 23:59.

Will my response be confidential?
